From celebrity homes to castles, several interesting properties have recently been placed on the Southern California housing market.
James Perse’s Malibu Farmhouse Put on the Market
Fashion designer James Perse has placed his six-bedroom Malibu home on the market. Constructed in 2001, Perse purchased the home in 2013 as an investment property. Since then, he has worked toward giving the 7,400-square-foot home an old-world farm look with rustic details such as a fireplace in the living room boasting built-in shelves for wood storage and an antique wooden trestle table. Other features include hardwood flooring throughout the home, a trough-like tub and a custom-designed shuffleboard game. Perse is asking $12.995 million for the home.
Moorish Castle in Burbank Available for Purchase
A six-bedroom castle in Burbank has been placed on the market for $3 million. Originally constructed in 1926 by a railroad tycoon, the castle rests on nearly 11 acres of land. Boasting magnificent views of the city and local wildlife, the home features a large fireplace, an elegant master staircase and hardwood flooring throughout. The home was last sold in 1976 at a price of $135,000.
Revamped Midcentury Home in Beverly Hills Hits the Market
A seven-bedroom home in Beverly Hills designed by midcentury architect William S. Becket has been placed on the market. Once an assistant to architect Sumner Spaulding, Beckett later branched out on his own and designed numerous significant works. Among these was his office on Melrose as well as the longtime home of Charlton Heston. While the home has undergone many changes since Beckett died in 1977, the home gives its future owner the opportunity to own a piece of history.
According to property records, the house was constructed in 1924 and then rebuilt in 1950. Interestingly, a wall safe in the home has the names of five individuals on it. These include Beckett as well as silent film star Tom Mix, who lived next door to the property in the 1920s. Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton is also listed on the safe. Hutton lived on the adjacent Buster Keaton estate with her husband Cary Grant. The home was last sold for $10.5 million, after which the inside and outside have been completely redone. It is now on the market for $29.9 million.
Brendan Fraser’s Former Home Back on the Market
A nearly 4,000-square-foot home previously owned by actor Brendan Fraser has been placed back on the market. Originally remodeled and developed for Fraser and his family, the actor owned the Mid-Century Modern home from 1996 through 2007. Features of the three to four-bedroom home include four bathrooms, a master suite with an attached loft, a media room, a gym, a wine cellar, a photo dark room, state-of-the-art lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows. Outdoor features include two decks and a resort-style pool with waterfall and spa. The home also boasts panoramic views of the city, ocean and canyon. The home is listed at $4.45 million.
