Choice Hotels International Inc. and joint venture partner Fillmore Capital Partners have begun construction of a new upscale hotel near Los Angeles International Airport to be named the Cambria El Segundo LAX hotel. Scheduled to open in late 2016, the hotel promises to offer a number of luxury features suitable for a variety of guests. Exploring the Cambria El Segundo LAX Hotel

Featuring 152 rooms, the Cambria El Segundo LAX hotel will be characterized by a modern design and ample amenities. Among the amenities planned for the hotel include a fitness center known as Custom Fit and a Back Porch Outdoor area. The hotel will also boast a contemporary bistro serving freshly prepared cuisine and local craft beers known as Social Circle.

Securing the 1.97 acres on which the building rests was not a simple process, as the city of El Segundo is a highly-desirable market with significant barriers to entry. This is partially because hotels in the region consistently enjoy an occupancy rate of over 80 percent, while the area itself is home to a number of Fortune 500 companies. In fact, El Segundo has more Fortune 500 companies than all other California cities except San Francisco. Among the Fortune 500 companies located in the city are Boeing, Chevron, Computer Science Corporation, DirecTV, Mattell, Northrop-Grumman, Raytheon and Unocal. Various zoning laws and other issues also presented problems with obtaining the space. As a result, it took nearly two years for the hotel to obtain final approval for the project.

The Expanding Cambria Brand

The new Los Angeles Cambria hotel is just one of several hotels being developed by Cambria, which is rapidly expanding and extending its presence throughout the country. In fact, the LAX hotel is one of four hotels the company is constructing this year. Last month, the company broke ground on a Cambria hotel and suites property in Southlake, Texas. The company is also partnering with hotels in Nashville and New Orleans, with plans to break grounds on those properties later this year. The new LAX hotel is part of the company’s attempt to increase its west cost presence by providing upscale, yet affordable, modern hotel options. Altogether, the four hotels being developed will cost roughly $160 million to complete.

The Rockville, Maryland-based Choice Hotels currently has more than 6,300 hotels franchised in more than 35 countries and territories. Other hotel chains that are included within the Choice brand include Ascend Hotel Collection, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge, MainStay Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn and Rodeway Inn. The Cambria brand currently operates 24 properties in the United States with 25 under development in the United States and Canada.
