Los Angeles will soon be receiving some exciting new options for purchasing groceries. From Aldi to a more budget-conscious version of Whole Foods, residents will have more places to purchase organic food items while saving money on their grocery bill.
Aldi Announces Plans to Open 10 New Stores in Southern California
Discount grocer Aldi has announced plans to open 10 new stores in Southern California this month. Six of the stores will be located in Los Angeles County, while three will be in Orange County and one will be located in San Bernardino County. More specifically, new stores will be opened in Anaheim, Arcadia, Buena Park, Cerritos, Covina, Fountain Valley, Inglewood, La Verne, Palmdale and San Bernardino.
A German company with a U.S. headquarters located in Illinois, Aldi has plans to expand to nearly 2,000 stores throughout the country by the end of 2019. Currently, the company operates approximately 1,500 stores in 33 states. According to company representatives, Aldi serves 30 million customers each month as it helps them save up to 50 percent by switching to Aldi exclusive brands.
The grand opening for all of the stores will take place on April 21st as part of the retailer’s ultimate plan to open 45 stores in Southern California by the end of the year. Last month, the grocer already opened an additional eight stores. Each of the grand opening ceremonies will include a ribbon cutting as well as giveaways of gift certificates and reusable bags. The California stores will be larger and have a wider assortment of items available than other Aldi stores. While most of the company’s stores carry approximately 1,500 items, the California stores will offer around 1,750 items. Some of these expanded items will include wine and produce, including the addition of more organic fruits and vegetables.
To make the grocery shopping experience even easier for its customers, Aldi has announced plans to accept credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. These credit cards will be accepted at all of the grocery store’s locations throughout the country.
L.A. to Receive First Whole Foods 365 Concept Store
Austin-based grocery chain Whole Foods Market Inc will open its first 365 by Whole Foods Market store on May 25 in the Silver Lake neighborhood in Los Angeles. These smaller stores are meant to appeal to millennials and other budget-conscious shoppers, with each store being customized through partnerships with small businesses.
The new California location will offer only 28,000 square feet of space. Among those companies that are partnering with the Silver Lake location are Allegro Coffee Company, which sells coffee and beer and CHLOE, which is a vegan restaurant based in New York City. teaBOT, which is a self-serve system for personalized tea based out of Toronto, will also be partnering with the project.
