Several new celebrity homes have recently hit the market in the Los Angeles area. Here is a look at a few of the properties that are currently available.
Tom Cruise’s Beverly Hills Home
Amidst rumors of tax troubles, Tom Cruise is reportedly trying to sell properties in Manhattan, Telluride and Laurel Canyon. He is also rumored to be quietly trying to sell his enormous Beverly Hills mansion, which is purchased in 2007 for $30.5 million while still married to Katie Holmes. Resting on 1.21 acres and built in 1937, the 10,000 square foot home features seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. It also boasts a lighted tennis court with basketball hoops, a fountain the size of a swimming pool, a children’s playground, two guest houses and a lap length swimming pool. The movie star is reportedly asking $50 million for the home.
Sam Simon’s Pacific Palisades Home
The home of the late Sam Simon, who is the co-creator of The Simpsons, has hit the market for $18 million. The property features two homes, including a 1948 Case Study House known as The Bailey House. More formally referred to as Case Study House #20, the home was designed by Richard Neutra. Simon had the home restored shortly after he purchased the property in 2004. Simon also had a more modern home built on the property in 2007. The 7,124 square foot, four-bedroom home, which is LEED Gold certified and features energy conservation technology, rests right next to the Case Study House. Simon used the newer home as his main residence while using Case Study House #20 as his guest quarters and office.
Tyra Banks’ Beverly Hills Home
Former model Tyra Banks has placed her Spanish Colonial home in Beverly Hills on the market for $7.75 million. Originally constructed in 1926, the 6,000 square foot, four-bedroom home features hand-painted tiles, travertine and maple wood floors, clerestory windows, vintage French doors and a sun room. The master bedroom also features a walk-in closet with a safe room, while the 11,000 square foot lot boasts fountains, a pool, an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit and an outdoor casita.
Mary Blair’s Cahuenga Pass
Famed Disney artist Mary Blair’s hillside Cahuenga Pass home has been put on the market for $1.6 million. Constructed in 1939, the home was designed by architect Harwell Hamilton Harris before being purchased by Blair and used as her studio and residence. While Blair passed away in 1978, the home still maintains many of the same features it had when the artist lived there. After purchasing the home in 2011, the current owners took certain steps to further improve the property, which features numerous double doors that open into a back patio featuring a landscaped hillside. The one-bedroom, one-bathroom home is further characterized by numerous windows of various sizes in every room.
