Behind gates in the highly coveted Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles lies a southern Colonial-style home that was once the longtime residence of the late actress Patricia Barry. After being listed earlier this year at a price tag of $10.495 million, the home sold shortly after for $10.3 million. Barry paid $111,700 for the home way back in 1969.
Situated on approximately three-quarters of an acre, the 1937-built, two-story home is covered in white siding, striking black shutters, and intricate latticework at the front. During the time that Barry owned the property, she revamped the front of the home by adding a grand double-height atrium with a number of slender pillars.
Following a large, hedge-bordered circular driveway filled in with meticulously manicured grass is the stately front entrance. The 4,330 square feet of the home includes a main residence with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, as well as a service wing that houses staff quarters with another bedroom and bathroom.
The center hall foyer boasts classic black-and-white checkerboard marble flooring, which leads to the living spaces of the home, including a living room with a fireplace, a hardwood floor-lined formal dining room, a study, a brick-floored sunroom, and a bar room covered in wood paneling.
The galley kitchen is lined with cherrywood cabinetry and a breakfast nook.
The master suite has a view of the backyard, which features a long red-brick deck with a seating area, and the sprawling greens up at the far end of the property to be greeted by a large swimming pool anchored by a large jacaranda tree.
Barry, who recently passed away in 2016 at the age of 93, was a regular on both the small and big screens, and typically starred opposite some of the legends of Hollywood, including Rock Hudson, Ronald Reagan, and Glenn Ford. She called the Brentwood estate home for almost half a century. Barry also rented some of her many homes in the LA area to high-profile Hollywood figures, including Paul Newman and Don Rickles.
