The massive Beverly Hills expanse that once belonged to legendary Hollywood icon Danny Thomas just sold for $65 million after being on and off the market over the past couple of years. The final sale price is a far cry from the original listing price of $135 million.

The buyer is Evan Metropoulos, whose brother Daren Metropoulos famously bought the Playboy Mansion at a heavy discount for $105 million from the asking price of $200 million. The longtime resident of the home and the man behind Playboy itself, Hugh Hefner, continues to live there.

Metropoulos used those same negotiation skills he used to score that major discount on the Playboy mansion with this newest acquisition. While the home was previously owned by Danny Thomas – who starred in the hit television show “Make Room for Daddy” in the 1950s and 1960s and founded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – the seller is billionaire business guru Gilbert Chagoury, who purchased the home for $15 million in 2000.

That’s quite the profit, regardless of the discount off the asking price, though he did spend millions of dollars completely restoring the place. It now features smart home technology and all the features that one would expect for $65 million.

The 7-bedroom, 10-bathroom mansion sits on a 2.5-acre lot and features offers 360-degree views of the mountains, ocean, and city from LA to the Pacific.

The grand entrance of the 11,880-square-foot home is mind-blowing, and boasts a gold-leaf ceiling, Italian marble, and millions of dollars worth of Baccarat crystal chandeliers. The home is loaded with decorative archways, hand-woven rugs, opulent tilework, and murals draped across walls and ceilings. Both the interior and exterior feature a Moorish design, likely inspired by Thomas’ Lebanese roots. The gold-leaf pattern follows in the crown molding of other rooms in the home, which go well with the gold-trimmed furniture throughout.

Perhaps one of the most impressive spaces in the home is the circular formal dining room, which boasts arched windows that surround the space, a ceiling mural, intricate floor tiling, and an ornate chandelier.

The massive outdoor terrace with checkerboard flooring and various seating areas provides stellar views, as does the sophisticated pool and waterfall spa.

The home also features an indoor ballroom, ideal for all those Hollywood parties Danny likely threw. Other notable features include a chef’s kitchen with Miele and Viking appliances, a media room, staff quarters, and a motor court that can accommodate up to 20 cars.

The Trousdale Estates neighborhood where the mansion is located is also home to infamous celebrities Elton John and Jane Fonda.
