A great deal of interesting market activity has been taking place in the Southern California real estate market. From homes being bought and sold by celebrities to a historic home hand-built by a blind man, here is a look at some of the area’s recent activity.
Oprah’s Purchases Montecito Estate
Oprah has reportedly paid $28.85 million for a new property in the wealthy coastal community of Montecito. Called Seamair Farm, the equestrian estate sits on 23.26 acres next door to a 40-acre plot the star already owns. The 5,000-square-foot ranch-style home was designed by Cliff May. Some of the outdoor features include a pool, horse stables, an avocado orchard, fruit orchards and two private wells.
Jim Buss Puts Penthouse on the Market
Lakers co-owner Jim Buss has reportedly put his penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in LA on the market for $8.8 million. Buss purchased the 4,300-square-foot home in 2013 for $4.05 million. The home features three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a formal entry, a living room and a dining room. The penthouse also comes with access to the tower’s rooftop pool and cabanas, two parking spaces, a gym and 24-hour valet service.
David Geffen Selling Carbon Beach Property
Media mogul David Geffen is reportedly quietly trying to sell his Carbon Beach home in Malibu for $100 million. The two-parcel property reportedly includes a screening room, guest house, a swimming pool, a spa and a lily pond. This particular property gained notoriety after Geffen filed a lawsuit to keep people from accessing the public beach via his property.
Miley Cyrus Adds to Her Malibu Real Estate Holdings
23-year-old Miley Cyrus recently purchased a $3.9 million mid-century home in Studio City and a $5 million ranch/vineyard in Hidden Hills. Even more recently, she has purchased a 1,384-square-foot Malibu mansion for $2.525 million. Located in Ramirez Canyon, the two-story, four-bedroom home was originally constructed in 1958. Features include a driveway that passes over a seasonal stream, a large backyard with a gazebo hot tub and a private balcony located in the master bedroom.
Tujunga Home Hand-Built by Blind Man
A charming Tujunga house has been put on the market for $600,000. While the home was not previously owned by a celebrity, it has an interesting history in that it was hand-built by a blind man named Elmer Reavis from locally-sourced arroyo stone. The historic home was constructed in 1924 with the help of a combination of pulleys and ropes. According to reports, Reavis used the same pulley and rope system to hoist a 1,500-pound stone above the fireplace. Resting on a 10,290-square-foot lot, the 1,398-square-foot home features stained glass windows, exposed beams and a guest house with a studio, loft, kitchen and bedroom. Sitting up against the foothills, the property’s outdoor features include a patio, a pool and a fish pond.
