Here are a few of the interesting real estate developments to take place in the Los Angeles area in the past few weeks.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Purchase Rihanna’s Former House
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have reportedly purchased the former home of Rihanna. Located in the Beverly Crest neighborhood, Rihanna purchased the home in 2009 for $6.9 million. In 2011, the singer filed a lawsuit stating that the home flooded after experiencing what she called a “moderate rainstorm.” She then went on to put the home up for sale, claiming there was extensive damage due to moisture and water. She managed to sell it the following year for $5.03 million to someone who went on to flip it with an asking price of $9.95 million. After sitting on the market for some time, it finally sold in 2014 for $7.645 million. The new owner gave the home additional renovations before putting it back on the market again last January with a price tag of $16.895 million.
Legend and Teigen reportedly paid $14.1 million for the home, which features five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Other features include a billiard/party room with a bar, a gym, a sauna, a theater, 9 flat screen televisions, an infinity soaking tub and a high-tech security system. Resting at the end of a cul de sac on .96 acres, the home also offers views of the city and the canyon.
Barclay Hotel for Sale
Barclay Hotel, which is the oldest continuously operating inn in Los Angeles, is on the market. Located at Fourth Street and Main, the building was constructed in 1897 and has operated in the hospitality business ever since. Designed by architects Morgan and Walls, it was the first hotel in the city to provide telephone service and electricity in every room. The building has frequently been used for on-location shoots for numerous films, including Armageddon, Inception, (500) Days of Summer, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and As Good As It Gets. The building is being billed as a great opportunity for developing a boutique hotel on the line between the Historic Core and Skid row. The six-story Beaux-Arts building is a city Historic-Cultural Monument, which means a future buyer will need to be familiar with regulations associated with the restoration of historical properties. The 100,000-square-foot, 165-room hotel has an asking price of $40 million.
Shepard Fairey’s Los Feliz Mansion on the Market
Street artist and muralist Shepard Fairey, who is best known for creating the Obama “Hope” poster, has put his 1929 Mediterranean-style mansion in the hills of Los Feliz on the market. Situated just south of Griffith Park, the 2,500-square-foot home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The home continues to have many of its original features, including hand applied plaster, high arched-beamed ceilings and a formal dining room. Often used as a workspace and studio for Fairey, who purchased the home in 2005 for $1.37 million, the home also features a terraced yard and landscaping. It is for sale with an asking price of $1.835 million.
DJ Calvin Harris Puts His Hollywood Hills Home on the Market
Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, DJ Calvin Harris, has put his “Zen-inspired” contemporary home on the market. Located above the Sunset Hills, the 4,127-square-foot home boasts four bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Other features include white walls with exposed black beams, a fingerprint security system, a high tech sound system and a master bedroom with a fireplace and sitting room. Other property features include a two-story guesthouse, a spa, a sauna and an infinity pool that abuts the walls of glass located at the back of the house. Harris purchased the home in 2013 for $7 million.
