Known as the “Gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains,” the city of Agoura Hills boasts a population of nearly 21,000 people. Covering a total area of 8.2 square miles and located in the eastern Conejo Valley between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Simi Hills, the region is unofficially divided into several districts centered around a downtown area. Some of these districts include East Agoura, Forest Cover, Malibu Junction, Old Agoura and South End. The luxury community offers beautiful natural scenery combined with an abundance of city amenities.
The Agoura Hills Lifestyle
Agoura Hills is best known in the region for its live music scene, with a number of famous acts getting their start in the region. Among these are Linkin Park, Incubus, Fort Minor and Hoobastank. The city’s music scene first experienced a boom in the 1980s, but died off near the end of the decade as many of these original musicians moved away or simply stopped playing music. By the mid-1990’s, the music scene caught a second wind as the live music scene grew once more. Today, the city still hosts various Battle of the Bands competitions and garage concerts. The city is also home to The Canyon Club, which is a highly-regarded venue that has hosted national acts such as REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Boyz II Men, The Smithereens and Foreigner.
In addition to its live music scene, Augora Hills hosts the Great Race of Agoura Hills each year. The annual event, which takes place at Chumash Park, was originally started in an effort to raise money for local elementary schools. The event’s Cheseboro Half Marathon was voted Best Half Marathon in the United States in 2011.
Located about 30 miles northwest of Downtown Los Angeles and less than 10 miles west of Los Angeles City Limits, the city provides residents with easy access to all of the restaurants, shops and other amenities LA has to offer. With its proximity to the Santa Monica Mountains, Agoura Hills also offers its residents with a seemingly endless variety of outdoor recreational opportunities to enjoy.
