“Spiderman” star Tobey Maguire has listed his quirky Santa Monica home for sale a mere two weeks after it was reported that the actor split from his wife, jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, after nine years of marriage.
Maguire bought the home for $2.675 million just last year and is now listing it for $2.995 million. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home is unique in structure: it starts off as a bungalow upon entrance, then expands into two stories towards the back for a total of approximately 2,400 square feet of living space. The entire space of the Spanish-style home is warm and welcoming thanks to its natural hardwood floors, comfortable color tones, and tons of natural light throughout.
Just before Tobey and his estranged wife bought the home, it was extensively renovated with the help of renowned L.A. Architect Ruben Ojeda. The ceilings were raised throughout the home up to 22 feet with accenting wood-lined barrel vaults.
The combination living/dining room features a partially double-height exposed wood ceiling. The kitchen features warm-toned wood cabinets, glass uppers, stainless steel appliances, and a bright green floor to liven the space up.
One guest bedroom is situated on the main floor, while the other shares the upper level with the master. Both upper-floor bedrooms feature custom built-ins, French doors, and access to a wide veranda overlooking the yard. The master bedroom boasts a vaulted wood ceiling and includes an en-suite bathroom with mint green ceramic tiles and twin pedestal sinks.
The hall landing on the upper level includes tons of custom storage cabinets that incorporate a desk area.
The second-story addition to the original 1927 bungalow boasts a contemporary outdoor living area with wood floor planks, concrete partial walls, and a wood trellis roof.
At the back of the property is a separate 1,200-square-foot structure designed by Koning Eizenberg Architecture that serves as a lounging area with concrete floors, soaring wood-beamed ceilings, and plenty of natural light. Another separate structure on the property features the home’s private gym (that used to be a garage), which can be transformed into any other type of space to suit the new buyer.
The quick flip is not “The Great Gatsby” star’s first: the couple also sold their Brentwood estate that he shared with his wife Jennifer in 2015 for $10.4 million after buying it for $8.45 million less than a year before. The 6,320-square-foot, 6-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom estate was previously owned by the likes of Ricki Lake and Courteney Cox.
It appears house flipping is a pastime that the actor is getting serious about.
The soon-to-be ex-couple also continues to own a $10 million vacant lot in the Brentwood neighborhood of L.A., which could be the site of a future abode built from the ground up.
