Jerry Buss Los Angeles Luxury Home

There is no shortage of truly exceptional Los Angeles luxury homes, but every now and again, one that is truly special comes on the market. And more often than not, it belongs to a Hollywood A-lister or some other individual of note. The late Jerry Buss’ Los Angeles luxury home in Playa del Rey undoubtedly fits the bill, and was listed last month for $5.95 million.

Custom-built in 1998 for Buss, the Italian-style villa is anything but ordinary. Buss, who helped propel the Los Angeles Lakers to mainstream popularity, spared no expense in making this home unique and tailor-made to his love of the game. Guests are welcomed by two Lakers logos in the double, stained-glass entry doors in the rotunda, so this home would be an ideal choice for a Lakers-lover or someone who wishes to keep Buss’ designs alive.

Other interior appointments include gorgeous Spanish tile floors, wood-beamed ceilings, a whimsical winding staircase, three roaring fireplaces and more. The game room was likely a well-used space inside Buss’ Los Angeles luxury home, with a custom corner bar inside. But it’s really the exterior appointments that take full advantage of the sweeping Pacific Ocean views.

Virtually every room in the house offers a balcony so you can sit outside and take in the sparkling ocean below, and a large terrace that overlooks the ocean is a fantastic place to host a cocktail party or enjoy more intimate gatherings with friends and family. The views are truly breathtaking from all areas of this house, but the rooftop deck with sparkling spa is bound to be one of the most used places in the house. Here, guests have panoramic views of the ocean and marina below, not to mention city views of downtown Los Angeles.

Buss’ Los Angeles luxury home offers 7 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, so there is plenty of room for a growing family, or for younger buyers who are interested in entertaining. The master suite is more like a masterpiece though, with a sunken bathtub for relaxing, a lounge, a massive walk-in closet and a separate living area. Guests can access all floors of the house via a three-stop elevator that joins the approximately 10,846 square feet that comprises the home.

Back in the late 1970s, Buss transformed a $1,000 property investment into ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers: one of the most popular professional sports teams in the world. During his time with the Lakers, they won Buss 10 NBA championships, and Buss quickly became known for his relationships with Hollywood’s elite. There were often celebrity sightings at Lakers games under his watch, and he helped transform the team into one of the most iconic in the NBA. Buss passed away in February at the age of 80.
