Known for his long-term stint on Saturday Night Life and IFC hit Portlandia, Fred Armisen is a quirky character with a surprisingly simple and elegant home. The star recently purchased a home in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is, of sorts, the Portland of Los Angeles. Named as one of Forbes’ annual “Hippest Hipster City” communities for several years, the area attracts trendy stars like Armisen with its hot real estate market.
The redone bungalow sits on a hillside lot and features 1,446 square feet of space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Although the home is close to neighbors on one side, it is elevated from the street line and sits next to a towering wall of greenery on the other side. The detached garage sits at street level and a simple, concrete walkway leads up to the home’s front staircase. Modest in its stature, the home may not seem like a celebrity oasis from the outside, but its artistic furnishings and modern aesthetic on the inside may prove otherwise.
Dark, rustic hardwood floors span the living space and simple white walls are seen throughout the home, but that’s not to say the space doesn’t have character. Large windows let in natural light and help to bring the outdoors inside to complement the natural decor seen throughout. Armisen’s style is modern, industrial, rustic with various plants placed within the home to further embrace the theme of nature.
The kitchen is highlighted with a reclaimed barn wood island and large farmhouse sink. Sleek, white marble countertops add a clean look atop the rustic wood, and the white tile backsplash adds a hint of modern aesthetic. Adding a pop of color, Armisen has deep blue bottom cabinets, but the top cabinets follow the white pattern. The main living space is an open-concept with a small dining table with wire-leg chairs that bring modern and industrial together.
Opening up to the backyard with french doors, the master bedroom is spacious but minimal with an elegant and calming on-suite. Bowl sinks are set on a soft grey countertop and the dual vanity has two mirrors and sconce lighting above. Grey stone accents the bathroom decor.
Tranquil Outdoor Space
A large deck sits above the backyard stained with a cherry tint. A modern picnic-table style table and bench seating matches the color perfectly and boasts an industrial aesthetic. The porch sits at fence level, which is constructed with concrete blocks that wrap around the front of the home. The backyard is urban chic with a small walkway to the porch and young plants dotting the landscape.
The home also features an extra bonus space that mimics a barnhouse with several unique chairs and a rustic, large door.
