Billionaire tycoon Howard Hughes was no stranger to the glamorous life. The eccentric filmmaker and aerospace innovator spent a considerable amount of time hobnobbing with the Hollywood elite and romancing some of the silver screen’s most iconic starlets such as Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner and Bette Davis. Now a home that belonged to Hughes during his Hollywood heyday has been placed on the market with an asking price of $11.5 million.
The home, located in the celebrity-adored Trousdale section of Beverly Hills, is a study in midcentury modern perfection. The 4,300 square feet of living space is awash in clean lines and starkly beautiful finishes. The living room of the home is outfitted for casual, comfortable conversation with a sunken seating area and a two-sided fireplace. Glass walls on either side of the openly-planned room let in plenty of natural light and afford views of the outdoor pool area and the surrounding city-scape.
Designed by legendary Southern California architect Samuel Wacht, the home was built in 1960 for Hughes. In 2007 the home underwent a massive renovation that lasted two years and resulted in a 500-square-foot master suite and a bonus room that has since been converted into a gym. Altogether there are four bedrooms and five bathrooms in the home.
It’s not just the interior of the home that has home buyers interested, however. Outside the home boasts a nine-foot-deep swimming pool with a diving board and spa. One of the highlights of the property is the rooftop deck, which is outfitted with a wet bar and fireplace and is the perfect spot to take in views of the canyons below the home’s perch on a promontory.
Hughes Home Adds to Luxury Beverly Hills Home Inventory
With the listing of exquisite properties like the Hughes home, the inventory of Beverly Hills has been on its way up over the last few weeks, giving luxury home buyers a strong chance at buying up a truly wonderful property. According to Altos Research, a California-based real estate analytics company, there are currently 148 properties on the market in Beverly Hills and more properties are being added by the day as we transition from spring to summer market.
This level of inventory is strong, but still rather limited, even for an exclusive community like Beverly Hills. That factor combined with a growing demand for homes in the area has resulted in a recent runup of home prices. As of May 15, the median single-family home value reached $4,810,615 and doesn’t look be slowing down on its way to even higher values.
With growing home values and inventory levels, now is a great time for luxury home buyers to make their moves. If you are interested in finding the perfect Beverly Hills home for you and your family, please contact our team of luxury property experts today.
