Alfred Coffee and Kitchen is located in stylish Melrose Place, which explains why celebrities are often found stopping in for a caffeine jolt. The shop is widely known for its iconic sign that has become a national slogan, “but first, coffee.” Talented baristas brew Stumptown beans (roasted in Portland, Oregon) to make indulgent coffee treasures that can be paired with a number of sweet accompaniments.
Highland Park’s Blacktop Coffee Shop takes pride in what they brew and this can be seen from the carefully chosen Sightglass coffee to the local Strauss milk that softens lattes and macchiato of all kinds. When visiting this Arts District coffee bar you can enjoy a wide range of pastries as well as six different kinds of toasts, something unique to Blacktop.
Eightfold Coffee’s founder Soo Kim set out to create a coffee lovers paradise in this airy, modern spot. Located in Echo Park, the shop has wood bench seating and a black-tile marble bar that could grace the covers of any decorating digest. The coffee of choice is Heart Coffee, which is brewed in vac pots to keep coffee fresh, hot and fully charged.
Endorffeine is a minimalist style coffee bar located in Chinatown’s East Plaza. The nine-seat horseshoe shaped coffee bar offers a place to watch Jack Benchakul, a self-proclaimed coffee scientist performs his craft. For the true coffee connoisseur, Endorffeine hosts Saturday evening events referred to as “9” where Benchakul walks guests through a three-course pairing of desserts appropriately paired with coffee cocktails.
G & B Coffee can be found in downtown Los Angeles. Here, duo Kyle Glanville and Charles Babinski’s have created a coffee shop with dramatic flare in the unique open-air Grand Central Market stall location. Their menu is extensive and no detail is overlooked from the piping espresso to their signature ‘Dark and Stormy’, created with house made ginger beer.
Larchmont Village is another brainchild of G & B mentioned above. At this eclectic location the pair offer their signature coffee drinks as well as pastries and food made in-house, complete with indoor seating and a hand-painted astronaut who floats overhead.
Intelligentsia can be found in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA. The beans are roasted in nearby Glassell Park adding to the local flair. The signature drink Angeleno beverage includes a quadruple shot of espresso shaken with milk, agave, and ice.
The Woodcat Coffee Bar helped to found the coffee scene in Echo Park. Since they opened their doors Janine and Sadaat Awan have offered patrons beans brewed from San Francisco’s Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters in a unique and masterfully designed coffee shop.
