Luxury home design trends are always changing, and those who are thinking about remodeling their current home or looking for a new one to purchase may want to consider including some of the newest design features that are making waves in real estate.
“The home isn’t just for the person who lives there anymore,” Linda Rossi, a marketing manager for Toll Brothers, a leading builder of luxury homes told New Home Source. “It’s where people create memories and share their lives with family and friends. The emphasis is now on making a home feel inviting and comfortable.”
Trending Features for Luxury Homes
Home owners are just as concerned with the look and feel of their home on the exterior as they are the interior. More are opting for a courtyard entrance that sets the home even further from the noise of the street and instantly welcomes guests into a warm and comfortable environment.
At the same rate, home owners are opting for an elegant outdoor living space and kitchen to extend their home, an especially popular trend in moderate climates like California. Outdoor kitchens with gas grills and storage space, wet bars and televisions make for ideal entertainment areas, while resort-style swimming pools and hot tubs create a soothing, vacation-like space just outside the home.
“The backyard itself is becoming more like a resort with cozier seating as well as larger pools with more features–from waterfalls and fountains to in-pool seating and creative water slides,” Rossi said.
Within the interior of a home, popular features include sustainable appliances and materials, a gym, marble bath and floors, wine rooms and large windows that bring the outdoors inside. Large soaking tubs and spa-like bathrooms with fireplaces are at the top of list for many home owners planning to remodel. Beyond design features, built-in technology is increasing in popularity in the form of USB plugs in wall sockets and touchscreen controls.
Home owners are also considering the entire family by adding children’s playrooms, game rooms and entertainment theaters.
“Old News” Features
The popularity of stainless steel appliances is making its way out, although they are still fairly popular. More people are opting for more natural-looking appliances, including those that blend into the cabinet and wall design. The kitchen has become a glamorous room in the home with dining nooks, wine coolers and high-tech gadgets.
Fewer people are installing hardwood floors as well, opting for sustainable materials like bamboo or even marble. Some home owners are also nixing the idea of white, beige and other neutral colors for their walls and are instead going fully dramatic with hues like black, emerald and navy blue.
