For many Los Angeleno’s cruising has become the best way to spend some time relaxing and reconnecting with family. In 2016 the world of luxury cruising saw the introduction of five new vessels that are the pinnacle of luxury cruising. Here we will look at some of these new ships and the modern marvels that have recently set sail.
A Look at Some of the Newest Intimate Cruise Ships
Some cruisers view smaller, intimate sailing experiences as the most luxurious. The Ponant’s Le Lyrial has guest quarters for just 264 passengers. The ship set sail for the first time in April 2015 and is a sister ship to the line’s Le Boreal, L’Austral and Le Soleal. These ships offer cruisers a “personalized, casually elegant yacht-like experience with emphasis on exotic ports, fine French cuisine and pampering service”. One of the biggest draws to sailing with Ponant is the ships ability to dock at some of the less frequently traveled ports of call. This means that you have the opportunity to see places that are less bruised by tourism.
A second ship in this class that set sail in 2015 is the Viking Star. This is the first ship from Viking Ocean Cruises, a sister company to popular Viking River Cruises. During 2016 we saw the addition of two ships, Viking Sea and Viking Sky. These intentionally small ships were built for destination-driven itineraries. This means that ship stay longer in some of the most beautiful ports, offering intimate exploration of these exciting locations. The inclusive fares cover free Wi-Fi, complimentary shore excursions and beer and wine with lunch and dinner.
A Look at the Newest Addition to Mega-Yacht Cruising in 2016
For cruisers who prefer the mega-yacht experience, there have been several additions to fleets throughout the world. Windstar Cruises recently christened their second and third all-suite power yachts: Star Breeze and Star Legend. Windstar bought three power yachts from Seabourn to provide cruisers with an experience that is top-of-the-line. In order to move from premium to full-luxury line, Windstar is offering complimentary shore excursions on select Greece and Turkey sailings this season.
The Most Exciting Additions to All-Inclusive Luxury Sailing
Regent Seven Seas Cruises is a long-time favorite among travelers who enjoy the lavishly all-inclusive luxury cruising experience. Regent goes so far as to include everything from air and alcoholic beverages to Wi-Fi and shore excursions in the cost of the trip. The most recent addition to the line is the posh Seven Seas Explorer, which it said to be “the world’s most luxurious ship ever built.” The ship is equipped with 3,875-square-foot, two-bedroom suites; the first suite at sea to have its own in-room spa “retreat,” with a sauna, steam room and treatment area. The ship will also feature Regent’s first culinary center, The Culinary Arts Kitchen.
Seabourn introduced two ships, Encore and Ovation. Encore began sailing in 2016 while Ovation is expected to start sailing on May 5th, 2018 with a 35-day trip around Europe. These ships are designed around the line’s popular Odyssey-class ships, with a passenger count of 604, a big jump from just 450.
Silversea is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their new flagship, Silver Muse, which is set to sail in the spring of 2017. This beautiful luxury ship will serve 596 guests. While Silver Muse has been crafted in the style of the most popular aspects of sister ship Silver Spirit, the line has vowed to up their game and offer a sailing experience that will “set new standards for shipbuilding in the ultra-luxury segment.”
