In an effort to compete with the more upscale fast-food restaurants that are continuing to pop up throughout the country McDonald’s has launched a new menu as well as new services in its Southern California restaurants. The company’s recent expansion in the area is just one example of the influence the region has on the rest of the country.
The Tasty Crafted Menu
To make its menu more appealing to patrons of its more than 600 Southern California restaurants, McDonald’s has started to offer customized burgers through its Taste Crafted menu. Featuring Taste Crafted Burgers and Chicken, the menu offers a variety of customizable menu options. With the new menu option, customers can build burgers by pairing one of four new flavor bundles with their choice of 100 percent USDA-inspected beef, Artisan Grilled Chicken or Buttermilk Crispy Chicken. They can then add their choice of sesame seed bun, artisan roll or potato roll.
After selecting the meat and bun that that prefer, customers can then choose from four different flavor options:
- Buffalo Bacon: includes spicy buffalo sauce, blue cheese spread, Applewood-smoked bacon, shredded lettuce and tomato
- Deluxe: includes mayo, red onion, tomato and lettuce
- Maple Bacon Dijon: includes bacon with maple seasoning, Dijon sauce, grilled onion, lettuce and white cheddar
- Pico Guacamole: includes Pico de Gallo, guacamole, lettuce, white cheddar and ranch sauce
Those who wish to purchase one of these customized burgers can expect to pay about 60 cents more than they would typically pay for a Big Mac meal.
Bringing the Meal to You
In addition to launching the new Taste Crafted menu, McDonald’s restaurants in Southern California are also offering table service. With this service, diners can place their orders at the counter. They can then take a seat and wait for the food to be brought to them at the table. This is a model that is already in place with many of the fast food restaurant’s competitors and other high-end fast food companies.
Future Expansion of the Taste Crafted Menu
Currently, the McDonald’s headquarters has not announced plans for the Taste Crafted menu to go national. According to representatives of the fast food chain, corporate executives will be monitoring the success of the program in Southern California to help determine if the expansion is worthwhile into other regions and states.
In an attempt to compete against the growing number of restaurants that are joining the fast food industry, McDonald’s has been experimenting with a number of changes in an effort to remain relevant. Among these was an expansion of the breakfast menu in October to serve breakfast items all day. The company also recently announced plans to launch a “McPik 2 for $2” menu in January.
With Southern California being such as hot market, it is little wonder that McDonald’s would experiment with its new menu and services throughout the region.
