E.L. James, author of the famed “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy, recently snatched up an incredible hillside mansion in Los Angeles for a whopping $7.25 million. The 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom home is certainly fit for the ranks of uber best-selling authors like E.L. – who’s real name is Erika Mitchell.
Despite being dubbed one of the most poorly-written trilogy novels by the Los Angeles Times, Fifty Shades of Grey has sold over 100 million copies across the globe. The novel trilogy has certainly given E.L. millions to drop on lavish expenditures, including this incredible abode.
This newly-built 5,616 square-foot home is perched high up in West Hollywood on a 19,000 square-foot lot. The home was designed specifically to take advantage of the breathtaking views of the ocean and islands that lie beyond. Panoramic glass walls are sprawled throughout the interior of the home, with each room offering views to die for. The home is multi-tiered, with each level featuring its own terrace to soak in the sights, as well as an elevator to make meandering throughout the levels much more convenient.
The sophisticated kitchen boasts Miele appliances, lacquered-wood cabinetry, and an extra-long breakfast bar, while the formal dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows. The expansive family room walks out to the outdoor terrace via a stellar vanishing glass wall, as does the glorious master suite. Even the master bathroom has a tub that faces floor-to-ceiling windows. The view is certainly something the architects and designers kept at the forefront as they dreamed up this incredibly unique property.
There’s a media lounge area that features surround sound, a wet bar, and a walk-in wine room for the ultimate in entertaining. The infinity pool and surrounding patio also offer another take on the dramatic views of downtown Los Angeles and beyond, and is accessed through the living area. The three-car garage offers plenty of parking and storage space, and also features its own windows from top to bottom.
The home is littered with lights galore, creating a welcoming and relaxing ambiance while providing plenty of light for a bright and airy feel to the interior. Most of the home is decorated in neutral creams and whites, further adding to the brilliant nature of the home.
E.L., along with her husband Niall, don’t call this new L.A. mansion home year-round. The couple shares their time with their other home in Great Britain, where they are originally from. The famous author purchased a home in Polzeath, a small seaside resort in Cornwall, UK, for £1.13 million in 2013. It’s a luxurious spread, located along the Atlantic Ocean.
With two more instalments of Fifty Shades movies, E.L. will most certainly have a lot more money at her disposal to create in impressive portfolio of real estate properties.
