At the luxury end of the consumer market, there are a myriad of products that have been made to appeal even to those who have the most unique tastes. When money is of no object, luxury products can get a little extreme but that doesn’t mean that buyers don’t have to stop themselves from indulging in a high-end treat every now and then.
Here are a few of the most interesting luxury products to make it big on the market this year.
Remmus sun lounger
Southern Californians are famous for getting away from their busy lives by basking in the glow of the sun for a few hours, and now they can do it in style. Remmus, a Finnish design firm, has created the premier sun bed and is selling it for $37,600. Sound a little pricey for a chair for your sun deck? Well this isn’t just any chair. The battery-operated lounger features speakers from innovative sound company Bose, a beverage cooler, a smartphone charging station and a “service button” that can be used to summon house staff if needed. Perhaps the most innovative feature of the lounger is that it automatically rotates to face the sun, so you’ll never have to get up and reposition your sun chair ever again.
Mevisto synthetic rings
If you’ve ever lost a loved one you might understand the overwhelming need to carry a part of them with you always, and now the technology is here to do so. Austrian firm Mevisto has devised a process in which biomaterial such as hair, ashes and even fur, can be used to craft synthetic sapphires and rubies. Although it may sound a little morbid, the company has received a nearly overwhelming amount of orders from customers who want to preserve something from their loved one forever in a beautiful piece of jewelry. Rings start at $47,200 while a matching set of ring and necklace can go up to $230,000.
Handmade wooden skis
The adventure market is still alive and well making it possible for not one, but two luxury ski makers to thrive in what was previously an untapped, niche market. Italy-based Ullak and Switzerland-based Anouk work with clients to fashion handmade skis that feature snake skin, Swarovski crystals, gold and even diamonds along with their painstakingly crafted designs. The labor that goes into creating these skis is so intense that Ullak only produces around 50 pairs of skis a year to ensure the quality and singularity of the product. The skis range in price from $2,700 to $12,900, but given the custom-nature of the product it is possible that they can run even higher. In addition to skis, that heft price tag also includes poles, bindings and a ski bag.
