Los Angeles California Fine Dining

The high-low fashion trend, which involves pairing a high-cost accessory with a low-cost base piece, is no longer anything new. Yet, it would seem that the food industry is taking a cue from this trend and is starting a high-low movement of its own.

Pairing Restaurants for a Unique Dining Experience

It is no secret that Los Angeles is one of the most exciting places for a foodie to live or to visit. The city is known for its quality meats and produce as well as its vast mix of ethnic food offerings. To further expand the city’s offerings, many of the city’s hottest restaurants are now starting to offer faster and more affordable counterparts to their more expensive and well-established restaurants. These mini restaurants offer a different dining experience while still offering the high-quality meals their more expensive counterparts are known for offering. In fact, here are a few examples of the paired restaurant offerings you can find in LA:

  • Chef Ludo Lefebvre has opened a casual French bistro named Petit Trois next to his Trois Mec.
  • Connie and Ted’s is a casual seafood restaurant serving as the counterpart to Michael Cimarusti’s Providence.
  • Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo have opened the casual Italian restaurant of Jon & Vinny’s not far from its elegant sibling Animal.

According to Chef Ludo Lefebvre, the decision to open Petit Trois was made because he had always dreamed of opening a French bistro. In addition, he wanted to offer a different type of dining experience that would not compete with the restaurant he had already established. When the space next to Trois Mec became available, opening the bistro seemed like the right move to make.

Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s inspiration came from the fact that they are both parents. As such, the partners wanted to create a place where young kids could enjoy a meal within a pleasant environment. Given that most kids love pizza and pasta, opening an American-Italian restaurant with a casual atmosphere seemed like a good choice. Michael Cimarusti was similarly inspired when he decided to open Connie & Ted’s, which offers low-key New England style seafood. He even took the theme of family further when he decided to name the restaurant after his grandparents.

While the complementary restaurants provide those who are on a budget with the opportunity to sample the culinary delights of some of Los Angeles’ greatest chefs, the unique atmosphere of these restaurants and the exceptional quality of food make them a great choice for those with expensive tastes who want to enjoy a casual dining experience. Furthermore, by sampling the items available at both the high-end restaurant and the casual dining restaurant, you have the opportunity to enjoy the full range of culinary creations that flow from the best chefs in the city.
