Songstress and style icon Gwen Stefani is collaborating with Urban Decay to offer a limited-edition cosmetics collection that is scheduled to launch in November. The collaboration represents the first time the company has collaborated with a celebrity, though the company refers to this particular matchup as a “no brainer.” Here’s a look at what you can expect from the new line of cosmetics.

The Urban Decay Style

Known for its edgy colors, Urban Decay has a cult-like following from makeup fans. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Newport Beach, the company carries lip, eye and nail colors as well as a variety of face and body products. The company’s color palette is frequently inspired by urban landscape, with names including Oil Slick, Smog, Roach, Rust and Acid Rain. While the company was acquired in 2012 by L’Oreal, it has still managed to maintain the edgy style that helped it to create such a large fanbase.

In addition to being known for its unique shades and experimental products, Urban Decay is also recognized for its stand against animal testing. The company has received approval by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics and has been routinely recognized by PETA with its Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Line award. The company has also been recognized as being cruelty-free by The Leaping Bunny Program.

Adding the Stefani Touch

Gwen Stefani has long been known for her unique style and use of hair and makeup. After breaking ground for women in music as the lead singer of the band No Doubt, Stefani went on to launch a successful solo career before becoming a regular on the popular television show The Voice. Stefani’s style has often taken center stage in all of her endeavors, with the celebrity being known for her out-of-the-box style and her strong, creative self-expression.

Stefani and Wende Zomnir, who is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer for Urban Decay, have known each other for many years. Though they have never had the opportunity to work together, both feel that now is the time to merge their forces. As such, Zomnir, spent many hours at Stefani’s house as they developed each product within the collection. Ultimately, the company was able to create the exact shades that Stefani wanted to see in her personal makeup collection.

The matchup between Urban Decay and Stefani is not the first time the singer has ventured into the world of beauty products. Prior to this collaboration, Stefani has launched perfume lines as well as clothing, shoes and accessories under the brand of L.A.M.B. While the pairing with Urban Decay is the first time the singer has ventured into the development of makeup, she has long had an interest in makeup. In fact, prior to becoming a celebrity, Stefani worked as a makeup artist.

The UD-Gwen Stefani collection is scheduled to launch on November 22. It will be available online at as well as at Urban Decay Stores. Other stores that will carry the collection include Macy’s, Sephora and Ulta.
