While Los Angeles is well known for the glitz and glamor of the Hollywood scene, it is also home to a thriving music scene. Whether you want to visit one of the chic LA clubs to enjoy live music or you wish to spend time in the pleasant LA night air, there are many venues available to choose from.
In fact, here are a few of the best outdoor concert venues that LA has to offer.
The Hollywood Bowl
Perhaps the best known of LA’s outdoor theaters, the Hollywood Bowl was constructed in the 1920s. Used primarily for music performance, the shell-shaped amphitheater is set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Hills. Aside from the standard music performances, The Hollywood Bowl also hosts the “Summer Sounds” series from July 13th through August 7th. The summer series, which is geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 9, combines art workshops with musical performances.
The Greek Theatre
Referred to as simply “The Greek,” the Greek Theatre boasts 5,870 seats. Located in Griffith Park and owned by the city of Los Angeles, the Greek Theatre was built in 1929 in the style of a Greek temple. Today, the theatre regularly hosts outdoor concerts at night. A variety of foods and beverages, including an extensive list of wines, are also available at the venue.
The Getty Center is an LA icon with its Getty Museum, breathtaking architecture, gardens and amazing views of the city. Located in the exclusive Brentwood neighborhood, the Getty Museum is home to a vast collection of artwork. In addition to seeing 1.3 million visitors to the museum each year, The Getty also hosts concerts throughout the summer.
Santa Monica Pier
The Santa Monica Pier is more than just a great place to ride a Ferris wheel and take in the beautiful coastal sites. In fact, the pier hosts its Twilight Summer Concert Series every Thursday night from July 9th through September 10th. The free concerts, which feature newcomer bands as well as well-established bands, start at 7:00 pm each night.
Skirball Cultural Center
An educational institution dedicated to Jewish heritage, the Skirball Cultural Center comes to life with concerts throughout the summer during its Sunset Concert Series. Performances take place every Thursday from July 23rd through August 27th. The campus also features a museum, libraries, gardens, courtyards and a café.
The Grand Performances summer concerts in downtown Los Angeles are already under way. For the 28th year in a row, the free performances take place at noon and in the evening on Fridays and Saturdays until August 22. The venue is located at 350 S. Grand Avenue.
