Whether you’re looking for theatre, music, wine tasting or some wholesome family fun, Santa Barbara is the perfect place to enjoy the holidays. Here are just a few of the events scheduled this December on the American Riviera.
The Nutcracker At The Arlington
A Santa Barbara tradition, the Nutcracker has been performed at The Arlington Center for the Performing Arts for more than four decades. This classic Christmas story is performed by the Santa Barbara Festival Ballet Company and accompanied by a full symphony orchestra.
The Arlington Center for the Arts is an enchanting theatre with an open roof for patrons to enjoy the stars. The Nutcracker will play at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13.
Julefest In Solvang
The annual Julefest Parade through Solvang, a traditional Danish city located in the Santa Ynez valley just 45 minutes from Santa Barbara. The parade runs from 11am to 2 p.m., starting from Solvang Park. The parade of horse-drawn wagons will wander through tree-lined streets passing the windmills and quaint shops of Solvang.
Solvang means “sunny valley” in Danish, and the wines of the Santa Ynez valley live up to this name. The region produces some of California’s finest chardonnay and pinot noir, as well as some highly acclaimed cabernets and merlots. The Solvang Julefest Holiday Wine About runs from Sunday, Dec. 13 to Monday, Dec. 14.
Let It Snow At Paseo Nuevo
Snow is a rare occurrence in sunny Southern California, but during the Let It Snow week at the Paseo Nuevo in Santa Barbara, the flurries start promptly on time all Christmas week from Monday, Dec. 21 to Sunday, Dec. 26.
The Paseo Nuevo is Santa Barbara’s premier shopping destination, with more than 50 shops and restaurants set along charming walkways and verdant terraces. All this and more makes Paseo Nuevo the perfect place to do some holiday shopping while enjoying the festive atmosphere of Let It Snow.
New Year’s Eve Parties
Santa Barbara knows how to celebrate New Year’s Eve, and so there’s no shortage of parties, shindigs, get-togethers and events to attend to ring in 2016.
The New Year’s Eve Pops at the Granada Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara is your ticket to enjoy classic Broadway and Hollywood hits conducted by Bob Berhardt. The concert at the Granada wraps up at 10:30 p.m., making it a great place to start the last night of the year.
For food and music, there’s the New Year’s Eve Bash with Vaud and the Villians at the SoHo Restaurant and Music Club on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara, and the Tierra & Friends New Year’s Eve at the El Paseo Restaurant on East El Paseo Street featuring The Groove Line and the Queen of Salsa Soul, TeCheetah Lopez.
For those who like to get funky, the Bacara Resort & Spa is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve Disco Party. The Bacara Resort & Spa is one of Santa Barbara’s finest luxury hotels, and the grand Bacara Ballroom is the perfect place to sing a disco edition of “Auld Lang Syne” as the clock strikes midnight.
