The spring and summer time is the perfect one to get out and explore the state of California or even the entire country. Instead of hopping on a plane to venture to a different locale, consider the old fashioned road trip as a means to explore the undiscovered and have a little fun. Road trips used to be incredibly popular among Americans. And while they are still more popular than some believe, many travelers opt to cut out the travel time and increase the amount of time they spend at their desired location. This spring, head out the door of your Los Angeles home in search of an experience like no other with these road trip tips.
Don’t plan it. Or all of it.
Road trips are fun because they take you to places you’ve never been to before. You are able to explore the nooks and crannies of America that go unseen from an airplane. While you may want to have a destination or two in mind when you jump into the driver’s seat, leaving it loose is ideal. Give yourself a few options or maybe even just a general idea of things you’d like to see. Maybe you’d like to stop at a national or state park, an iconic museum or historical site, a renowned restaurant or brewery or maybe a quiet town. All of these things will give you an idea of where to go but leaving it up in the air can help you to freely venture into the unknown.
Prepare your car and personal items.
There’s nothing worse than going on a road trip to be stalled by a flat tire or dead battery. Make sure to take your car into the mechanic before hitting the road to get things like an oil change if needed, tires filled and everything tuned up so you don’t run into any troubles down the road. The same goes for any devices that you are bringing. Make sure you have a backup phone charger if that’s your dedicated map for navigating.
Be wary of traffic.
While it’s hard to get away from traffic in Los Angeles, you don’t want to be bogged down by the bumper to bumper traffic when you’re planning to hit the open road. Plan your city or large town visits according to the time of day, avoiding the morning and evening rushes when possible. While it’s your intention to be traveling in the car, you don’t want to waste your time seeing a highway gleaming with red for an hour.
