There are a number of communities in the Los Angeles area that get particularly excited as Christmas draws close. They collectively deck their halls and trim their trees. Very few go as “all out” as the people of Beverly Hills. Visitors from far and wide come each year to marvel at the twinkly sight of Rodeo Drive, Via Rodeo, Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Wilshire. Palm trees thick with lights make this visit well worthwhile.
Candy Cane Lane
For more than 60 years the people of the self-named Candy Cane Lane decorate eight of the most beautiful blocks in all of California. Located near Lubao and Oxnard Streets in Woodland Hills, visitors can walk, drive or bike down the street lined with lights.
Christmas Tree Lane
Christmas Tree Lane may be a match for Candy Cane Lane with a mile-long path of cedar trees dons their festive lights each holiday season. Altadena becomes the place to visit with a cruise down the hill to take in the beautiful sights.
LA Zoo Lights
A recent addition to the list of best light sightings is the LA Zoo at Griffith Park. This light spectacular replaces the outdated DWP Holiday Lights show, and now the zoo has become the holiday place to be. The zoo grounds have been decorated to let holiday revelers travel by foot to take in the sights. You have the chance to meet a reindeer and have your photo taken with Santa.
Marina Del Rey Boat Parade
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the Marina Del Rey Boat Parade. Those who want to take in this fun filled event can bring a blanket or chairs and find a spot along Fisherman’s Village or the Burton Chace Park. Throughout the evening almost a hundred boats sail by the marina with holiday lights and decorations in a fun filled competition. Categories include Best Theme, Best Animation, Best Band, Best Lights and more.
Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade
For over 100 years the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has sported more than 100 decorated sailing vessels as they parade around a 14-mile path in the Newport Harbor. The free parade can be enjoyed for five nights, with an option to purchase reserved seats and even dining packages along the waterway.
Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights Extravaganza
The Torrance’s Sleepy Hollow neighborhood sure knows how to put on a show. With one of the highest densities of holiday lights anywhere in southern California, every tree, house and lawn becomes a glittery holiday wonderland. Holiday lovers can take in the show every night from 6 to 10pm, starting in early December up until New Year’s Day.
A visit to the Venice Canals is a great way to spend some holiday time with the family. Each year the bridges are lit to beautiful perfection. You can park your car and stroll through the streets to take in all the sights, sounds and holiday cheer.
