When looking at the many residential options available in the Los Angeles area, it is always a good idea to explore the city’s many loft communities. Among the loft communities the city has to offer is Rowan Lofts, located in the Old Bank District. Not only does the building offer lovely units with great views, but it is also conveniently located near to many of the downtown area’s hot spots.
Taking a Closer Look at Rowan Lofts
Constructed in 1912, Rowan Lofts is located in the Rowan Building within the Old Bank District at the northeast corner of 5th and Spring streets. Originally built by Robert A. Rowan and A.C. Bilicke to house law offices and stock brokerage films, the iconic loft residence continues to serve as a landmark of timeless elegance. The design of the building was created by famed architect John Parkinson, who is also known for designing other Los Angeles landmarks such as Pacific Stock Exchange, City Hall and the Alexandria Hotel.
While the Rowan Building maintains its historic characteristics, it underwent a major rebirth in 2008. The beaux-arts style building features residences with flexible live/work space, Italian-designed finishes in the bathrooms and kitchens, mahogany-framed windows boasting natural light and views of the cityscape, 10-foot ceilings, hardwood birch flooring, private decks and patios, skylights and Bosch stainless steel appliances.
Meanwhile, the building itself features its original face brick and terra cotta, original marble tile flooring in elevator lobbies and waterscape features. Residents of Rowan Lofts also enjoy use of a number of amenities. Among these are 24-hour patrol and concierge, a 24-hour doorman, a dog run, whirlpools, a gas barbecue area, one parking space per resident and a lounge.
The Old Banks District
Located in the Historic Core of Downtown Los Angeles between the Jewelry District, Gallery Row, the Toy District and the Fashion District, the Old Bank District is comprised of a group of early 20th century commercial buildings. Many of the buildings within the Old Bank District, which became an official city designated district in 2004, have been converted into residential lofts.
Other features of the Old Banks District include the downtown Art Walk, art galleries and a variety of boutiques and restaurants. Attractions located near to Rowan Lofts include the Staples Center, L.A. Live, Nokia Theatre, ESPN Zone, Center Theatre Group, Ahmanson Theatre, Million Dollar Theatre and GRAMMY Museum.
