Southern California has many beautiful homes available on the market, but some homes come complete with far more interesting stories than others. Among these are homes owned by fallen athletes and renowned architects as well as those with a quirky style and design.
Slava Voynov’s Redondo Beach Home
Former Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has put his four-bedroom, six-bathroom Redondo Beach home on the market for $2.89 million. Designed by Michael Lee Architects and built in 2013, the contemporary-style home features floor-to-ceiling glass, custom lighting, wide plank wood floors, an open-plan kitchen, a formal dining room, a tequila room with LED lighting, a media room and indoor-outdoor living areas. Outdoor features complimenting the 4,020-square-foot home include wraparound balconies, a side courtyard and a swimming pool. Voynov, who reportedly paid $2.6 million for the home when he purchased it last year, recently returned to his native Russia as he faced possible deportation due to domestic violence charges.
Ship House in the Hollywood Hills
Some homes to recently hit the market may not have been owned by celebrities, but they have a unique look that cannot be ignored. Among these is the 1958 Ship House in Hollywood Hills that has been placed on the market for $1.585 million. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom features a big living room skylight, a second-floor loft with fireplace, a backyard deck with a pool and hot tub, an indoor observation deck and every shape of window and door imaginable. The Ship House was last on the market in 1971, at which time it sold for $43,000.
Ricardo Legorreta’s Brentwood Home
Mexican Modernist architect Ricardo Legorreta has put his 8,200-square-foot home on the market for $11.5 million. Named Casa Shapiro, the colorful home located near Brentwood Country Club has been listed on the market twice since 2013. The private compound rests on a three-quarter acre lot and boasts six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a ground-level master suite, lovely gardens and a swimming pool.
Cecil B. DeMille’s Los Feliz Carriage House
A home once owned by American filmmaker Cecil B. Demille has been put on the market for $2.079 million. Located in Los Feliz, the 3,453-square-foot Italian Villa boasts four bedrooms, 3.25 bathrooms and a host of modern amenities set within a classic 1920’s setting. Completely renovated in 2014, the home is part of the family’s Laughlin estate. The private, gated home offers a formal living room and family room, French doors, a custom kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and Caesar Stone counters, a master bedroom with custom walk-in closets, home audio, an outdoor terrace with a fountain and parking for up to six cars. Resting on a 9,745-square-foot plot of land, the property last sold in October 2012 for $894,000 and was previously listed in April for $2.398 million.
